Cardboard For Kitty is a Youth Lead Event.
Meet Hannah (11) & Grace (9) the founders of Cardboard For Kitty.
Last year, Hannah and her friends had a chance to organize a fundraising event for the Saint John SPCA through a school project. Ever since, Hannah wanted to do more to help. In early October 2017, she asked her mother if she, her sister Grace and their friends could help again.
The girls were thinking of a bake sale, but their mother challenged them to think how they could raise more money, learn new skills, involve their community and have lots of fun. Hannah & Grace love to be creative and build new things - so when they saw the story of Caine's Arcade they knew that organizing a cardboard build challenge would be the perfect event for kids, families and their community. Plus, after looking after their own cat Georgie, the girls knew that cats love cardboard boxes!
With the help of their community, sponsors, friends, family and volunteers the sisters launched their first social entrepreneurial event: Cardboard For Kitty was hosted by Lancaster Mall (West Saint John) and welcomed 16 build teams, hundreds of spectators, very generous sponsors and donations. The event raised $4,500 for the Saint John Animal Rescue/SPCA and 2 cats were adopted.
This Year's Goal:
With news of the event growing Hannah & Grace, along with the Saint John Animal Rescue/SPCA, Committee Volunteers & Sponsors decided to move to a bigger venue with the help of the The Hardman Group Limited, Market Square. Hannah & Grace hope to raise a minimum of $5,000. We hope you will come out to help these young social entrepreneurs, their volunteers, teams and sponsors meet this goal on April 4, 2019.
